Maya Økland is a Norwegian photographer of Brazilian origin. In her project entitled “Stranger in Motherland” she wants to talk about the city where she is originally from but where she has never lived.
This sense of estrangement is conveyed by the photo on the cover and in particular by the transparent sleeve with the title on it: once the sleeve is removed the book is left anonymous. Inside the book the captions under the pictures are “hidden” by the edge of the book as to recreate the same sense of estrangement.
